Mas Yus Health. Having less sleep is known to be harmful to health. But it turns out women who are sleep deprived will have more adverse effects than men.
Lack of sleep often associated with the risk of road accidents, workplace and significantly increase the risk of high blood pressure, depression, diabetes and obesity. But new studies show that sleep deprivation affects women much worse both emotionally and physically than men.
Studies from the University of Warwick Medical School reported a strong relationship between acute sleep deprivation and high blood pressure in women, while studies from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine reported that women's lack of sleep will have problems in the relationship. Both of these conditions do not apply to men.
"We have seen this gender difference is important, especially in cases of high blood pressure because women are more susceptible to it," said Professor Francesco Cappucio, cardiovascular specialist and epidemiologist at the Warwick Medical School.
Prof. Cappucio said when a person sleep, blood pressure will naturally decrease. If someone does not get enough sleep so he had to cope with increased blood pressure for several hours in a day.
In addition, women who get less sleep also increases inflammation that can damage the artery so that the risk of coronary disease. This effect is greater occurs in pre-menopausal women.
Cappucio add statistics show that women tend to sleep less because of social pressure (time constraints in taking care of family, work, home and social life) compared to biological problems such as insomnia, depression or anxiety.
"Lack of sleep can affect parts of the brain that involves setting up an emotional balancing, of course, this condition tends to affect women because the male brain is not too concerned with emotional problems," said Dr. Narina Ramlakhan, a sleep therapy at London's Capio Nightingale.
For that the impact of sleep deprivation in women can not be underestimated. In the long term this condition can cause disease, and it is more susceptible experienced by women than men.
